About us

ZDA Mining (Zarin Dagh Astarakan) was founded in 2007 to explore, develop and operate metal mines, with regional support from Azerbaijan Mining Company and investment from a Georgian geological-mining partner. Today the company runs the most active exploration programme in East Azerbaijan Province and operates the Andarian gold deposit using modern heap leach technology.

11 billion rial CSR contribution by Zarrin Dagh Astarakan in the first 8 months of 1402

In the first eight months of the Iranian year 1402 (March–November 2023), Zarrin Dagh Astarakan contributed 11 billion rials to community projects — road maintenance, healthcare for vulnerable patients, school of religious studies construction, debt-prisoner relief and disaster-management facilities — under the coordination of the Varzaqan county governor.

Zarrin Dagh Astarakan contribution to the "Khaneh Alem" in Kharvana

Zarrin Dagh Astarakan has taken on part of the cost of constructing the religious-scholar residence (Khaneh Alem) and caretaker quarters within the Kharvana mosque grounds, allocating 2 billion rials to the project as part of its social-responsibility commitments.

Extraction method

For massive open-pit gold deposits, high-tonnage open pit mining is the best fit — costly upfront, but with high production rates and low per-tonne extraction cost. At our Astarakan and Andarian sites, ore is moved by heavy fleet from the pit to the heap leach pads.

Processing method

Our processing route is heap leaching — the cheapest and most environmentally safe gold-recovery technology available. The system runs as a closed loop: water and reagents stay inside the circuit, with only modest top-up needed to compensate for evaporation.

Environmental considerations

The main advantage of heap leaching is that it protects the local environment. Because the cyanide solution is handled inside a closed leaching circuit (containment ponds, heap, drainage, ponds), any contamination of surface and groundwater is ruled out — and the environmental assessment has been approved by the national environmental authority.
